a fancy fair
do you want an excuse to dress in your sunday best.? do you want to feel like your at an old-timey carnival? do you want delicious treats and entertainment for all your senses. then head to the devon horse show for some good old fashioned, but pricey fun. i have been a good patron of the show and fair since i was 3!
in the heart of devon there is a blue and white wall that surrounds stables and an open arena with a stadium and fairground. from the road, you can only see the tip tops of these. it beckons you to come in and join the excitement and childlike wonder of a county fair, while still offering a feeling of exclusivity.
There is a nice variety when it comes to food. you can opt for good ol' hamburgers and hot dogs, soda and fries. A tea tent is available if you want something more refined. lemon sticks, baked goods, and funnel cake are among the many sweet treats. the shopping is fabulous. anthropologie (my favorite clothier) has its own tent. there are other boutique shops, some local, that carry a variety of upscale decor. Horses and all things equine are often the theme. this year, poor richards coffee house of devon will have its own stand. be sure to check them out if you love a truly hand crafted beverage. take a little time to visit the stables and watch the horses being groomed and preened many of the stalls are decorated proudly with ribbons, banners and trophies the horse has attained. strolling around in my official devon horse show hat, watching the horses, playing a few games to win a silly prize, a ride on the ferris wheel, and a lemon stick...This is the devon horse show to me. these are some shots that i was able to get over the past few years of attending. i hope to get more this year. This is a fun time for all. bring the kids. bring the old folks. bring the out of towners. most importantly bring your cameras!! the devon horse show:may 26-june 5, 2016
